Scotts Valley Water District is currently recruiting for a Water Facilities Worker (Temporary)

This is a temporary non-benefitted position that is not linked to any regular positions of the same name. The work schedule is 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and is limited to a total of 999 hours in a fiscal year.

Salary Range:     $18.00 - $22.00 hourly

Reports to: Water Operations Supervisor

Definition:  Under supervision and in a training capacity, incumbents are assigned routine, semi-skilled maintenance tasks while learning a broad range of duties in the construction and maintenance of water system.

Supervision: Reports to the Water Operations Supervisor. Work schedule and activities are closely coordinated with the operations field staff.

Typical Duties:

Duties may include but are not limited to the following: read and install water meters and related equipment; maintain, and repair water production, storage and distribution facilities; complete associated record keeping; report unusual circumstances or incidents to the appropriate person; prepare and complete work orders.

Perform a variety of construction, maintenance, and operations activities when assigned to work with the operations field staff

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge: Basic mechanical principles; effective customer service communication; principles of written communication and basic mathematics; general record keeping and safe work practices; common computer hardware and software; hand tools and power equipment.

Abilities: Deal tactfully and courteously with public and staff; work effectively and maintain attention to detail despite frequent interruptions; quickly learn procedures relating to work assignments; understand and follow written and oral instructions; maintain confidentiality; use computer to perform accurate data entry and access utility customer information; use hand tools and power equipment and safely perform a variety of maintenance tasks as assigned. Work cooperatively and effectively in a team environment.

Education and Experience: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

Experience: One year of construction experience and customer contact.

Education: Completion of high school or its equivalent. Additional related training is desirable and may be substituted for experience.

License or Certification: Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License and a safe driving record. A Grade I Water Distribution Operator (D-1) Certification issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board is desirable.

Desirable Qualifications: Utility or plumbing experience, computer skills, familiarity with the Scotts Valley area.

Other Requirements: Attend required safety and training programs, work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions where insects, snakes and hostile dogs may be encountered, must have physical stamina to walk up to eight miles daily, sufficient strength to lift meter lids and other items up to 50 pounds without assistance.
